International Day

On Friday 10th May the primary children came together for a fantastic international day, celebrating some of the different countries and cultures represented by children and parents at the school.

Children were able to come to school wearing a costume which represented a country of their choice - there were some amazing clothes on display.

The Schuman Hall was filled with flags, music, food and dancing, with nine stalls representing the following countries:
  • Thailand: lots of fruits to sample and loads of maps and information about the country
  • Colombia: plenty of information about the country and great snacks - savoury plantain chips - yum!
  • Phillipines: a chance to try out traditional dance - the children showed us some great
  • New Zealand: pin New Zealand on the map, books an information, plus pineapple lumps and rashuns
  • Australia: a didgeridoo, boomerangs and some beautiful paintings, with a quiz to complete
  • India: some delicious spicy snacks to try, lots of Indian artefacts and quizzes about games and languages
  • France: french bread to sample, French icons to look at  and a chance to try out a game of petanque
  • Ireland: bread and butter, ham and just one crisp each (potato famine!) - and lots of Irish inventions
  • Switzerland: cheese and chocolate, plus cow bells - what more does a country need?

KS1 children each visited three countries and received flag stickers in their passports for each of these. KS2 were allowed to visit as many countries as they wanted.

Thank you to Aiga for organising the day and to all of the parents who ran the fantastic stalls.
