About the PTA

COMMITTEE
FRIENDS

What is the PTA?

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is made up of all parents and guardians of the children at Europa School. The purpose of the PTA is to
  • provide a link between the parents and the school,
  • ensure a pleasant and stimulating environment is offered to the children
  • provide additional resources, experiences and facilities.
We reach our purpose through our events and other fundraising activities. The events which we run not only raise money for use by the school but also provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together.

How is the PTA organised?

We hold our annual general meeting (AGM) once a year, which all parents are invited to attend. At this meeting a committee is elected to run the PTA, consisting of a chair, a vice-chair, a treasurer and a secretary together with several ordinary committee members.

Due to the size of the school it is not practical to have a representative from each class on the committee, but we stay in touch with the nominated class coordinators and ask them to pass on information to other parents. Our committee members represent the whole school, having children from reception through to S7 (the final year of secondary school) and across all language streams.

The PTA meets two or three times each term and we also have smaller working groups which meet separately to organise individual events, made up of committee members and friends of the PTA.

How do we raise money?

Most of our money is raised through events, including our Christmas Fayre and Summer Fete. Other events include St Martin’s Day, Carnival, quiz nights, coffee mornings and cake sales. Details of all of these will be published in Classlist.  In addition, we raise funds with the sale of pupil designed Christmas cards and through eBay and Easyfundraising (check our fundraising page for more info).

How is the money spent?

The funds raised by the PTA are intended to pay for extras which are not already provided by the school’s main income – “fun things” that make learning more interesting and exciting. The PTA committee decides how funds should be allocated: examples include contributions towards new equipment (sound system, playground, summerhouse, science labs), workshops for pupils and parents (internet safety, Shakespeare), drama productions and sporting events.

How can I get involved?

We are always happy to welcome new members onto the committee and would love to hear from you if you would like to join. However, we appreciate that not everyone can make this kind of commitment, so we also have plenty of roles for people who would prefer a job related to a particular event or would just like to help out as needed – our friends of the PTA are an essential part of our team. Please contact us if you want to get involved.
